great book
It was very well written, but the story is a bit 19th century.In contemporary writing the girl would have been raped by the men in her life. Interesting to read however.
I did not know it was part of a series of books. It might have helped to start at the beginning of the series. Good read.
A young girl and her artist father lived in a small studio. He had been sick and died shortly. A gentleman who had bought some art from him was there. He wa also a friend of her fathers. The girl had no place to live and no family. He said he would take her west to live with him, his wife and two daughters and a son. He was very mean to his family, but always nice to Sheila. He was tye owner of a very nicehotel with an outstanding bar. As she got older she became his barmaid. Of course being a beautiful girl the men gave her a hard time. She was rescued by an older lady and taken to Hidden Creek to live. But it was not all good for her there. She is involved with two men. She knows she loves one and and thinks so much of the other one. It is very excting towards the end. You'll be surprised how it ends!
